Updated: Dec 31

It was a snowy day so today we had church we held services on Zoom. God will always make a way for us to gather to hear His Word.

This week Pastor Mary Gunther spoke about Jesus, The Reason for the Season. It was a beautiful reminder of the too easily and quickly forgotten truth that without Jesus daily comforts would not be possible.

Scriptures:

John 1:1-14

Philippians 2:6-11

John 14:15

Matthew 22:36-40

Romans 10:9-10

1 John 4:2-3

Genesis 3:15

Psalm 27

Isaiah 17

Philippians 2:8

In enjoying the festivities of this season many have not received Jesus, our guest of honor at Christmas. Some, in the rush of daily life, believe that there are more important things and greater needs than Jesus not realizing, or understanding, that through Jesus they have everything and without Him you have nothing.

The birth of Jesus is the incarnation of the Word becoming flesh. We as Christians celebrate the incarnation of the true and living God and not just a baby being born in a manger. The most opposed idea in the world today is that God came into the world and this is our very foundation as Christians. This is the season we should be confessing the gift of Jesus Christ our Savior not the gifts under the tree.

It is true that there are no other births like the one of Jesus. However, there were and continue to be so many "unusual" births that they testify to the validity that a virgin birth is possible. An elderly Abraham and Sarah had Isaac, Samson and Samuel were both birthed by barren women and John the Baptists mother was both elderly and barren. Even today there are births of eight, nine and ten babies in one delivery. Many testify that they were unable to conceive yet naturally have thriving children. Each of these cases supports the truth that "unusual" births do happen.

It is our responsibility to believe the virgin birth happened as it is stated in the Bible. If as Christians, we cannot believe the virgin birth we might as well rip those pages out and then throw away our Bible. We must believe beyond head knowledge and get it into our hearts to the point that NOTHING comes before the Word of God. Without seeking the Lord, it does not matter what we do or what we have.

Christians do not live for themselves but for the Lord because they want to be ready when He comes to take them home however and whenever that may be. The life, crucifixion, death, burial and resurrection should be deeply imbedded in our hearts. There is no other way.

This beautifull baby changed everything but if Jesus does not affect anything about us, if we refuse to believe His virgin birth was possible, then do we really believe anything? Trust and believe God today, lay aside your burden and run a race pleasing to Jesus Christ.
